Biography Workshop




February 17, 18, and 19

Instructors:  Jean and Marietta Yeager, Mary Ruud and Mary Goral


The course will take place  at Foxhollow’s Farm Center and will feature biography work, led by Jean Yeager, painting, let by Marietta Yeager, Eurythmy, led by Mary Ruud, and singing, led by Mary Goral.


Course Description and Goals: An understanding of the phases of human development is one of the fundamental components of any “developmentally based” approach to education of children or adults. This workshop presents introduces “stage development theory” based on the work of Rudolf Steiner and others. The workshop recommends student’s personal “action research” into their own development as a way of assessing the veracity of the theories presented.

Expectations: The course is comprised of three components: pre-workshop required readings (in order to prepare for in-class discussions); presentations and discussions of in-class material; artistic exercises; biography sharing in pairs or small groups.


Friday, Feb. 17 – 5 pm to 9 pm

Introduction, Overview of Stage Development Theory, Definition of Terms,

Presentation: “Phases of Life: Birth – 21 years of age.”

In class biographical exercise in a group of four.

Homework Reading: “Facing Karma”, R. Steiner

Presentation: Phases of Life: 21 – 42 years of age

In class biographical exercise: bring a snapshot of your self age 14-16 (no studio photos).

“Break” taken on an informal, as needed basis during small group exercises.

“Who Let The Dogs Out? Mid-Life Soul Development” Conversation on three lectures: “The Mission of Anger”, “The Mission of Truth”, “The Mission of Reverence”

12 noon to 1 pm

Brief presentation on “Crisis, Forgiveness and Transformation

Optional reading: “The Occult Significance of Forgiveness”, S. Prokoffief

 

1:30 pm to 3:00 pm

Water color painting session with Marietta Yeager which includes a brief visit by the being of “Crisis”, followed by discussion. Don’t miss it!

Informal break after painting and before discussion.

3:00 pm to 4 pm

Discussion.

4 to 5 pm

“Soul Ripening, Unaccomplished Intentions” Presentation: Phases of Life: 42 – 63

 

5 pm to 6 pm

Dinner

Deep Dish Courage: Facing The Spiritual Heart of Adolescence” the parallel tracks of child development and teacher/parent biographical development frequently coincide / confront one another. Steiner’s “internal cosmos” is explored as metaphorical tool for bringing balance.

ABOUT MARIETTA YEAGER

Marietta Yeager is a licensed occupational therapist (OTR/L) and trained in Anthroposophical artistic therapy at Tobias School of Art in East Grinstead, England. She has worked as a curative painter at Camphill Villages in Pennsylvania,  at the Kimberton and Detroit Waldorf schools, and has taught Waldorf artistic curricula in support of training programs on the East Coast and in Detroit. She recently she worked as an Artistic / Occupational Therapist at a drug and alcohol rehab unit in a  Vermont regional hospital.

 

ABOUT JEAN YEAGER

Jean Yeager has researched and taught biography at the Center For Social Development at Emerson College, Forest Row, England; as part of the Administrator’s program at Rudolf Steiner College; the Waldorf teacher training in Detroit; and in maximum security prisons in Michigan. He is the former Administrative Director of the Anthroposophical Society of America.

 

 Cost for the weekend is $60.

ANTHROPOSOPHY

and

the ARTS





March 16-18


This weekend intensive class features an in-depth study of the last portion on Steiner's text “How to Know Higher Worlds” along with numerous artistic activities. 

Participants will experience the joys of eurythmy, wet-on-wet water color painting, singing, and handwork and will participate in lectures and discussions.


Instructors: Janey Newton, Mary Ruud, and Mary Goral



The class begins at 12 noon on Friday and ends at noon on Sunday. 

Friday: Noon – 8 pm

Saturday:  9 am – 8 pm

Sunday: 9 am – Noon

The class takes place at the Foxhollow Farm Center in Crestwood, KY.


The course is open to public and private school teachers, parents, administrators and interested others.   Cost for the weekend is $250.00. 


Food will be catered by Farm to Fork and is available at an additional charge.
